Clutch Alignment for Polaris Race Quads

1. Remove clutch covers, belt, and both clutches
2. Measure from the center of the motor shaft to the center of the transmission shaft. If it is less than 10", you must shim the rear mount or mounts until you get a minimum of 10" center to center.
3. Using two straight edges, place one horizontally on the end of the motor shaft and one on the end of the transmission shaft. View them from the top looking down. The straight edges should be parallel or up to .040" wider at the front of the motor. To get these parallel, you will have to shim the lower front mount left or right and possibly the top mount also. (see step 4)

4. Using the two straight edges, place them vertically on the end of the motor and transmission shafts and view them from the rear of the ATV. The two straight edges MUST be parallel. To change this, you must shim the top motor mount left or right.

*After doing this adjustment, you must recheck the horizontal parallelism again.

5. Next, install the clutches. Install he belt and check for belt freeplay. With the transmission in gear, roll the machine back and forward about 3 feet, 3 times to make sure belt is at full low gear position.

Old style GM wheel alignment shims work great.
